Storage and installation instructions
KRONOPLAN®/KRONOART® & other HPL boards
Storage
When storing the HPL sheets, also known as Trespa, any contamination between the sheets and in their surroundings should be avoided. HPL panels should always be stacked horizontally on flat, stable supports and a clean surface. Full support must be provided. Stacks must have a clean cover plate. Storage should be in enclosed, dry rooms under normal temperatures and conditions. Improper storage may cause permanent warping and damage to the surface of the HPL sheets.
Rivet and screw length
The following formula is used to determine the correct screw length:
- Thickness of HPL panel + thickness of substructure + max. 13.4 mm (incl. 6 mm for cap nut) = length of balcony screw.
The following formula is used to determine the proper rivet length:
- Thickness of HPL panel + thickness of spacer ring + thickness of substructure + 5 mm for rivet head = length of rivet.
Processing of HPL
HPL sheets must be machined like hardwood or coated particleboard. Carbide tools for woodworking are suitable for processing this plastic. These panels can be cut, drilled and milled. Care should be taken to use sharp tools to avoid bleeding of the cut and heat stress on the cutting edges. Threads can be threaded into the panels. HPL panels are also suitable for curved applications. The minimum bending radius r = 2 m for 6 mm sheet thickness and r = 4 m for 8 mm sheet thickness must be observed. A suitable substructure must be provided.
Drilling & HPL
During assembly, it is recommended to form a fixed point and several sliding points. Maintaining the fixed point ensures that the HPL panels are always aligned longitudinally and transversely. The fixed point is placed in the center of the panel in a two-panel installation and in the center of one panel edge in a single-panel installation. For fixed points, the diameter of the hole is equal to the diameter of the fastener, sliding points must be at least 1.5 times the diameter.
